Austin, Texas

Ride the
Hill Country

Where limestone ridgelines meet singletrack. The Hill Country offers some of the most thrilling mountain biking in the Lone Star State — and it's right in Austin's backyard.

Why Mountain Bike
in the Hill Country?

The Texas Hill Country isn't what most people picture when they think of mountain biking, but that's exactly the point. Rolling cedar-covered hills, exposed limestone outcroppings, technical creek crossings, and sun-baked hardpack singletrack deliver a riding experience unlike anywhere else in the country — and it's all within an hour of downtown Austin.

🏔️

Unique Terrain

Grippy limestone bedrock, cedar-choked ridgelines, and caliche double-track give Hill Country riding a character all its own. Rocky descents and punchy climbs reward technical skill at every turn.

☀️

Year-Round Season

With mild winters and over 300 sunny days a year, Austin's trails stay rideable nearly every month. Even summer heat can be beaten with early morning sends before the temperature climbs.

🌿

Natural Escape

Greenbelts, state parks, and private ranches offer wild corridors just minutes from the city. The Barton Creek Greenbelt and Reimers Ranch put genuine wilderness within reach of any Austin rider.

💪

Physical Fitness

Mountain biking builds full-body strength, cardiovascular endurance, and balance. Hill Country climbs are short but steep — every ride leaves you fitter than the last.

🧠

Mental Health

Time on the trail is a proven stress-buster. The focus required to navigate technical singletrack clears the mind completely — better than any meditation app.

👥

Strong Community

Austin has one of the most welcoming MTB communities in the South. From beginner clinics to expert trail builds, riders here look out for each other and for the trails they share.

🚵

All Skill Levels

From the flowy beginner-friendly loops at Walnut Creek to the demanding expert lines at Reveille Peak Ranch, the Austin area has terrain for riders at every stage of their journey.

🦅

Wildlife & Views

Whitetail deer, painted buntings, and turkey vultures are regular trail companions. Summit views across the cedar-blanketed Hill Country reward every climb with a panorama worth earning.
